One of the founders of Tech Tails Australia was hospitalized after he was struck by a bike while on a walk with his lovely Bulldog. Thankfully he pulled his pooch to safety. The situation may have been avoided if he had something to get the motorists attention. Every year, more than 10,000 pedestrians are hit by cars in Australia. That's one person every ten minutes. What an alarming figure! Tech Tails decided to create a brand new Australian-made LED dog collar that would enhance visibility and allow drivers to see pedestrians and dogs. Like almost every great idea, they googled it and found that the collar already existed. They searched all over the Internet and found a couple of companies that made LED pet collars and LED dog leashes, but they didn't seem to consider what dog owners wanted. The products on the Internet seemed low quality and not properly constructed. So Tech Tails decided to ask people what they liked or disliked about LED dog collars and found there was a big opportunity to create a company around the recommendations from dog owners.
They opened a kiosk, surveyed folks on the internet, participated in trade shows, spoke to Australian retailers and started a Kick starter campaign to gather as much input as possible. Tech Tails gathered thousands of recommendations and included the most common functions people wanted. It was simple, ask customers what they want and make the collar around their suggestions. Since no one else wanted to put effort into providing a collar and leash that pooch lovers demanded, our illuminated LED pet collar was born."
